Oh hell yea!!! Don't get me wrong options are cool I used to have a ton of them. I cut back a lot purposely. Now it's just me, my console and workflow. I've been operating on the less is more theory for a while now. I get the sound I want from very little, I have a few little things I do to add the dirt. First off my board has been modified with built in compressors, the swap of a few chips. And the add on of a few preamp modifications all within the console. Its also been rewired with high end cable, recapped with higher rated caps, and I rebuilt/upgraded power supply. The time and effort you spend making your transformer section "which definatley sounds cool." you can achieve sounds and tones with what you have by utilizing your eq differently, using different mic set ups, and bouncing back through your channels. I'm not talking about just front end micing. I'm talking about post end micing. You already have a million options.

Perhaps I should note too that my preferred method is to track to tape (MCI JH24) then dump everything into digital via my SSL converters for editing. For mixing, I do some processing within my DAW and some analog, but bring everything up on the Neotek. Then it's either mixed down to tape or into digital depending. So, anywhere along the way I may choose a transformer could be useful. Unless I'm misunderstanding the way your planning on doing it is coming from your single channel direct output on a channel strip. Then inserting it into a line in > transformer > Tape/DAW. Can you not just line into any preamp you have like an API 512c it will hit the transformer. Is this the same concept or am I missing something?
