Profit is not necessarily the motivation. The most likely point for failure for any electrical system (audio, computer, etc.) is at a connector or socket. Just take a look at how many problems people have with continuity issues in the Neoteks and other consoles or better yet take a look at the Molex nightmare in MCI tape machines. My guess would be that Neotek opted for reliability over convenience, assuming that the channel strips would rarely need to be removed from the console.
