Hi
As long as the voltage rating is the same or higher you will be OK. Note
that certainly the other TIP transistors odd numbers are NPN and even
PNP (or vice versa I have not looked). If a substitute part doesn't have
a 'reverse' diode, simply add a 1N5400 series diode. This prevents
damage when powering down from the caps in the desk holding charge when
the PSU reservoirs have discharged.

Also NTE 271 doesn't have a diode from the emitter to collector like
the tip145 does. Don't know if that matters.

available anywhere. Can I replace it with a tip146 or 147? Or does
