Dillard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, July 20, 2002 7:02 AM To: Netsites Discussion Group Subject: [netsites] ARTICLE: The Doctor is a Serial Killer The article talks of betrayal of trust, serial homicide of patients is an extreme circumstance in which to find the use of that phrase. Britain's 'Dr. Death' Murdered at Least 215 Patients By Sinead O'Hanlon <http://news.findlaw.com/international/s/20020719/crimebritainshipmandc. html> MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Britain's "Dr. Death" Harold Shipman joined the ranks of the world's worst serial killers on Friday when an official inquiry ruled he had murdered at least 215 patients with heroin injections. The inquiry found Shipman killed quietly, coldly and systematically over 23 years, ending the life of patient after patient in a betrayal of trust "unparalleled in history." The family physician, now 56, was jailed for life two and a half years ago. He was convicted of murdering 15 women, most of them old, but the full extent of his crimes is only now apparent -- averaging almost a murder a month for a quarter of a century. His motives remain a mystery and he refuses to confess. "Deeply shocking though it is, the bare statement that Shipman has killed over 200 patients does not fully reflect the enormity of his crimes," Janet Smith, the judge who conducted the inquiry into the killings, wrote in the report. "As a general practitioner, Shipman was trusted implicitly by his patients and their families. He betrayed their trust in a way and to an extent I believe is unparalleled in history." ========================== Full Story May Be Read at the URL Above Sincerely, David Dillard Temple University (215) 204 - 4584 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 09:27:32 -0500 From: Gleason Sackmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RESOUR> [netsites] MetaReligion From: Parthiux Trestium [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2002 6:26 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [netsites] MetaReligion MetaReligion http://www.meta-religion.com/ "Major Religions And Beliefs Systems: Christianism, Buddhism, Occultism, Gnosticism, Theosophy, Magick, Esotericism, The Paranormal, Mysticism, Wicca, Paganism, Philosophy And Science." The address is: http://www.mail2web.com The nice thing about this email access is that if you have an existing email account at home that you're expecting messages through but are away from home you can access your HOME email by putting your email address and the password that you use through your local provider. There is no registration for this service. The messages will appear on the mail2web and you can reply, send email, etc. from that location. In addition, when you return home, you can open your email account and your messages will also be there. The mail2web apparently forwards a carbon copy of your messages to you. The original messages that are directed to your home email end up there (as if you'd never seen them) and the messages sent to the mail2web account will be deleted. You still have your mail but you have access from a distance. The only disadvantage is if you delete anything from mail2web, don't think it's also gone from your home computer. It will also be there waiting for you when you open your mail. This is a wonderful website for those of us who do not use hotmail, yahoo, or AOL. I have a local provider (Charter Internet) but have not been able to access my home email when I was away without directing everyone to my hotmail account. Now I can use either without having to tell everyone where I am or where they need to send things when I'm away. Just thought you'd like to have an alternative. However, it is estimated that over 40 million Europeans do not take holidays. For many some form of disability is considered to be the main obstacle hindering their access to many of the existing tourism offers. Demand for accessible tourism offers is growing in the perspective that the tourism industry is starting to recognise tourists with disabilities as an important consumer group. <snip> The Commission has as well produced a handbook for the tourism industry 'Making Europe accessible for tourists with disabilities' - prepared in 1996.
