I can't think of what features were taking away that are likely to return.

I think the multipoint features were desired by lots of people but were
never in the cards ( at least not directly integrated into NetMeeting) -- I
think the poster that mentioned Exchange 2000 is correct -- following the
H.323/T.120 standard which Microsoft has chosen as its path will mean that
the way to get multipoint audio/video is through an MCU/conference server --
which apparently is integrated into Exchange 2000.

I have given up hope of using ICQ for starting NetMeeting calls -- ICQ is
suffering from severe bloat problems in my opinion

Yes I have seen that -- it seems as you say to work fairly well.

I think though unless there is some sort of MCU type server -- this won't be
feasible (bandwidth continues to be a problem)--- MCU's regardless of their
type cost money to buy and operate even in small scale operations -- there
are currently no economic models that would support their widespread
deployment.

I would agree if you want only voice chat -- but this technology still needs
a server to manage the audio -- servers on high bandwidth feeds don't come
for free though.

I think you are right about the hamstringing -- but I don't think it is
NetMeeting or the technology it uses that is at the core of the problem --
the core problem is still unreliable low bandwidth connections.
