Well that means that nothing from outside can connect -- how are you routed
to the internet -- through a proxy, router or ???

NAT - Network Address Translation -- a process by which IP addresses are
translated usually from Private non routable addresses to public routable
addresses -- most often used in routers or firewalls as LAN
protection/control mechanism or a way to allow multiple LAN clients use the
internet using only one ( or few) public IP addresses.
