Anything is possible, it is just code ;-)  Could you explain
the use of the above?  At which point in the network configuration
does this script get executed?

What does the script do?  Could you explain how it helps in
the network proxy issue?  BTW, I assume that this script will
need to be executed whenever the network configuration is
changed, e.g. the laptop is now hooked up to another network.

I don't think so.  But if there is an important reason for this,
we can do something about it.
