I'm pretty sure it predates Solaris 10. If I recall correctly, the first VLAN-hack interfaces were shipped as patches for S8 and S9. It's entirely possible that VLAN-related user documentation was also shipped with those CS Consolidation patches. (Shipping the bits with no way to turn them on would be sort of silly anyway.) In any event, even if we were to establish some lack of documentation as a fig leaf, we'd still have the actual compatibility issue to deal with -- we can't just _arbitrarily_ break users, even if we failed to provide reasonable man pages. We'd need at least some expectation that what they're doing is plainly wrong, that it's extremely rare, or that there's just no choice but to break it due to insurmountable problems. I don't see any of those here. And, as I mentioned before, this has nothing to do with the PVID issue. Getting rid of the VLAN PPA hack interfaces changes nothing about what I need to do with the nice new dladm "create-vlan" Clearview UV VLAN interfaces. It's the same underlying issue, no matter how you get at the VLAN. The work is the same. I think we're on a tangent. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 35 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
