No, I was just doing:
  svcadm disable network/physical:nwam
  svcadm enable network/physical:default
  inetmenu
etc.

I have no idea how the service instance got deleted.
Maybe something inetmenu did?  (just a guess)

Yes, that worked, though it left both instances enabled :)
Took me a few minutes to find the manifest file:
  /var/svc/manifest/network/network-physical.xml
