Nic wise, depending upon the mobo choice, I may use an PCIe Intel nic.

S3 is as deep as Solaris goes -- we don't support S4. (This is G1 state.) (S5, aka G2, "might" be available on some systems, but I don't know of any where this is true. Solaris has no explicit support for it.)
