Spoke to soon, once again. I reloaded rather than logout and log back in and I 
once again have all of my sound.
Thanks for the tip.
Its been a good weekend. I have SAMBA running (this took me three weeks), VNC 
working, my sound is back. I have all of the stuff loaded that I wanted 
loaded (with the exception of Bannerblind in Mozilla). Life and Linux MDK9.0 
is good.
