I've had this happen also, and I'm paging thru my notes and cannot find
what I did.

SOrry. I'll keep looking.  But upon install, there is a place in
Xconfigurator that asks
do you want your desktop to be bigger than your screen ( or something
like this ).

When it happened to me, I didn't check ( or uncheck ) this.

There's a way to fix it.. Thats one thing I've learned with Linux.
There's ALWAYS a way.  It's probably not obvious until you do it, then
you say,
duh...

I don't think it's a KDE thing. Look along the lines of /etc/XF86
files..

BTW, you did try  cntl-alt-minus right?

This shrinks the screen sometimes..
