Are you SURE it's the OS? I have had bad hardware do this to me. For me it was a bad NIC, believe it or not. I know for sure that bad memory can do it, and so can a bad power supply. The lack of any log activity indicates the machine did it, not the OS. A black screen--and then the bios boot sequence starts--just like pulling the plug. e
