I did notice that IRQ 11 stamped twice, but didn't
know what it meant; however, I took out the winmodem
and put the hardware modem into the same slot, so I'm
positive it's in the correct slot.

I'm confused about the model number ... the model
number on the back of the modem says 2977 ... yet the
linux listing has both 5610 and 2977.

I don't think that's the case ... the windows laptop
machine upstairs stays online for days.

FYI ... since changing the init string as was
suggested, I was online for the hour and a half first
try ... then recenlty was online for nearly 9 hours.
That's a good sign.

I'll holler if connections change back to major
flakiness.
