As I said in another post, got a lot of errors like:

in /var/log/messages

But I'm afraid I'm no expert on these error log messages, and in my experience they seldom have much to do with mplayer. The message above suggests direct memory access , I think dma means that, and maybe someone can help you set dma up properly, I'm guessing it's a hardparm job.
Certainly dma access is desirable if it relates to dvd/rom and hard drive as I'm guesing it does , and may be the single cause of your problem.
