About those # experiments, try changing the above 5 lines to read like this:

#/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom auto
user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
#/dev/scd1 /mnt/cdrom2 auto
user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,umask=0
0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 dev=/dev/scd1,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,umask=0
0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy1 auto
user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,sync,exec,codepage=850,noauto,unhide 0 0

This will get rid of supermount, but I think your experimental entries
are a little messed up. I also changed your burner to read only because
it's not necessary for it to be rw. cdrecord can still burn.

OK so this is how my fstab looks now,

/dev/hda7 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda5 /boot ext2 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/W2000 ntfs iocharset=iso8859-15,ro,umask=0 0 0
#/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom auto user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
#/dev/scd1 /mnt/cdrom2 auto user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
#none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
#none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd1,fs=auto,rw,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0

none /mnt/cdrom2 dev=/dev/scd1,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
/dev/hda6 /mnt/ext2-vol3 ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda9 /mnt/ext2-vol6 ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda10 /mnt/ext2-vol7 ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy1 auto user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,sync,exec,codepage=850,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/fd1 /mnt/floppy2 auto user,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,sync,exec,codepage=850,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/hda11 /mnt/ntfs-vol8 ntfs iocharset=iso8859-15,ro,umask=0 0 0
/dev/hda12 /mnt/ntfs-vol9 ntfs iocharset=iso8859-15,ro,umask=0 0 0

and,

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# mount -a
mount: fs type umask=0 not supported by kernel
mount: fs type umask=0 not supported by kernel
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]#

Not only that but,
I cannot create a desktop Icon, because there are no dvd/writer entries in dropdown list in properties of any Icon you choose to try and make.

However,

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# cd /mnt/cdrom
[EMAIL PROTECTED] cdrom]# la
./ doc/ install.htm live_update* README.txt
../ dosutils/ INSTALL.txt Mandrake/ RPM-GPG-KEYS
autorun.inf images/ isolinux/ misc/ .rr_moved/
COPYING index.htm LICENSE.txt pkg-9.1-Bamboo-i586.idx VERSION
[EMAIL PROTECTED] cdrom]#

so I can read media on the command line without prior mounting, good as far as it goes.

Also, I am not sure, because I haven't tested it yet, that, apps like xcdroast will not perform well on this version of supermount either, everything is mighty slow and laboured in loading and reading.

I din't need to change floppy enties as it's still the same automount.

I'm sure I tried you idea before as another experiment I picked up off the net somewhere. Not entirely sure though, since I cannot remember exactly what I've tried and not tried as I've done so many experiments to see what works .

Still glad to find someone suggesting ideas, so do keep suggesting.

John
