Try www.scantips.com which has some good basic tutorials about scanning, especially on the vexing issue of scanner resolution vs screen resolution vs printer resolution. In essence, they're all different, and more dots does not always mean better images :-) <rant mode> Personally, I find the Linux scanning front-end software situation to be very disappointing. Kooka is terrible from both a usability and features point of view. XSane is far better on the features, but has a frustrating and buggy interface. There just doesn't seem to be a decent app that mixes a nice, easy interface for doing the simple stuff, with the ability to access the power features when you need them. A big reason for our shared frustration is that the windows apps assume their users are idiots and so do all the calculating for them and give them a simple interface, whereas the linux apps assume we're all imaging gurus and don't want any help. I find myself trying to do the calculations in my head, giving up and just using trial and error. Wastes times, but I'm slooowly working out the right ratios for what I want. As for getting same-size printout's, I find a mere 150dpi in XSane routed through to KPrinter seems to come out about right on my printer. </rant mode> Hope the link helps. John.
