Framebuffer is just high-res text mode, I don't think there's anything to do with security involved. Most graphics cards will allow you to run in text mode at a higher res than you would normally see (like when you first boot your system, those huge, blocky text messages). For example, in my /etc/lilo.conf, I have: vga=794 which, IIRC, means that my text mode is 1024x768, with smaller, higher res text, which is nice on a large monitor. In Non-FB, you would have the normal vga display, where you get maybe 15 lines on your screen at a time. Maybe you could think of it as half way between text-mode and X. -- HaywireMac ++ ICQ # 279518458 Registered Linux user #282046 Homepage: www.orderinchaos.org ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Mandrake HowTo's & More: http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ At the end of your life there'll be a good rest, and no further activities are scheduled.
