I have a Dlink 704P that includes a shared parallel and serial port.  If he 
was using an external modem connected with serial, he could use that device 
to create a firewall on dial-up. 

Finding such a device for an internal modem will probably not be possible, he 
would need a standalone box to install the modem into.
