Anne, why uninstall Xine? Shouldn't I just be able to update it?
The Mandrake versions of mplayer and xine are not compiled to take advantange of the 'unfree' codecs and apps that they can't distribute for legal reasons. Anne's advice was correct, uninstall the Mdk versions and then install only PLF versions.
