True how true it is.

Perhaps your instructions Ronald, may seem common sense to others but not
to
someone who has been using Linux for only 3 days. I have no idea how to
install downloadable files and what file endings I'm looking for. It's not
like windows, there's zip and exe files that run automatically. When
individuals give out instructions to newbies they need to keep in mind to
include more details. Newbies can read and read, but if they don't know
what commands to look for in order to troubleshoot we turn to all of you
experienced users. And... your advice was incorrect. I got the card
working in 5 minutes with great instructions from CIVILEME. This
individual
told me what to type and what procedure to take. Below are the
instructions
for everyone that is having problems with this soundcard:

>From a cold start when you see:

LILO Boot:

type

linux 1

and wait for the system to start. When you see the prompt

#

then type the following at the # prompt

sndconfig

and follow the instructions on the screen. Once completed type at the #
prompt,

shutdown -r now

and then start normally.

The reason for booting into single-user mode is that there is a small
chance
that some service will interfere with recognition/installation of the sound
card.
Thanks to CIVILEME for his input and clear instructions. I know not
everyone knows everything, but giving clear instructions to newbies should
be a given. Especially when someone indicates so. I hope this information
will be helpful and that all newbies do give each suggestion a try. Since
all our systems are different, results will vary. And now everyone knows
that "sndconfig" does work with the Ensoniq pci soundcard.
