The fsck file is not present in the /sbin directory.
I suspect that more files are also missing, because the startup script did
not find /sbin/clock either.

I could install all over again, but is there some other way? Perhaps getting
the missing file(s) directly from the CD (or from the net) ?

It looks like your fsck didn't get installed (I wouldn't know why this
would be, unfortunately).

Go into root maintenance mode and type

cd /sbin
ls fs*

There should be a file there called "fsck". If there is not, that is
your problem. If there is, there is a problem with the script.

If you don't find fsck, then I suspect you've made a mistake during your
install. Did it complete without errors? Are you sure?

If fsck is present, try running it:

fsck /

If this works, then you definitely have a script issue. This could mean
that the $PATH variable is bad, or that the script calls the wrong path.

If fsck is missing, look at installing Mandrake again. This is a pretty
catastrophic problem, from what I can tell -- it tells me that the
install didn't complete properly.

Lykke til!
