Only way is to eliminate power failures will an UPS, eg.,

No, it's not. usually you can recover, but eventually you're
gonna lose the FS. That's been my experience. I bought an APC
Backups 500 at Wal*Mart for $123. 'Course I have no idea what
availability/prices are like in S Africa. It not only will handle
power outages, but also 'brown-outs', and other 'dirty' power
situations, and functions as a surge protector also (power and
phone). Here in rural arkansas, I deal with all of that.

I don't know of any Alan, other than it's reported that ext3,
Reiser, and other similar 'journaling' FS's that Linux can run on
are less susceptible to file corruption due to improper shutdowns.
Reiser FS is an option in Mdk 7.1 (expert). Even still tho, power
fluctuations, spikes, and outages not only threaten your software,
but just as importantly they put your hardware at risk. I got an
UPS not just because I had to re-install Linux a few times, and
rebuild Windoze registry, I also lost a scanner and a CD-RW.
