Bill,

Let me reboot to my Linux box and I can email you my files.
Replace my addresses with yours and you should be up soon.

Subject: [newbie] Unable to get Cable Modem Working

Hello All
I know this has probably been discussed here before, but I can't find
anything that helps me.

I have @home with an SMC1211TX Ethernet Card. I have used the help files and
set it up accordingly, using drake config. It tells me that everything is
okay but will not connect. Also I have an extra drive so I clean installed
Mandrake 7.1 on it and everything worked perfectly until I shut the machine
off and then tried to bring it back up, it would not connect. I wiped the
drive and clean installed again and it worked, but when I shut down same
problem won't connect.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bill,

First of all, did you try powering down your computer, turning off the modem
for 15 seconds. Some modems may have to be reset the first time. Allow
another 15 to 20 second for reset. Start the computer in Linux. In addition,
are you using Netscape?

Other Information to Check

Did you get a static IP address or are you set up using DHCP?

Your numbers should appear similar to the following example below:

Host name: cr800114-a
IP address: xx.xxx.xxx.xx
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: xx.xxx.xxx.x
Broadcast: xx.xxx.xxx.255
Network: xx.xxx.xxx.1

Sub domain name: etob1.on.wave.home.com

DNS server 1: 24.2.9.46
DNS server 1: 24.2.9.48

Mandrake Linux 7.1 does not address Broadcast and Network fields in
DrakConf-->Network Configuration.
So, you will have to edit a two or three files manually.
