Thanks for the pointer.  Using Ctrl-Alt-F3 ... F5 I discovered that Mandrake
7.2 was having problems mounting the CD-RW.   (If anyone is interested in
the messages I can provide them.)

I Already have WinME installed so I bypassed this problem by copying the
mandrake CDs to
the Hard drive and used a floppy with the harddrive install image to install
Mandrake.

I am now happily configuring my system...
