[newbie] Modem Problem

I have a problem with my modem, I don't know what brand it is, I just use a generic rockwell driver in windows98, it is ISA.   I have succeded in dialing through minicom, nowhere else. I thought I should use kppp, but I can't seem to find that, maybe it wasn't installed although I couldn't see it in the package list (mandrake 7.2).   Can anybody help setting up my modem and kppp.
