Hi All,
I installed LM8.1 from ISO images on a Compaq Presario 1244 notebook.
I am using a PCMCIA 3 COM Model 3CXFE575CT ethernet card.

For some reason, on install, I must've chosen options
that installed two ethernet cards: eth0,and eth1.
What options should be chosen for cable modem over a LAN
with a cable/DSL router doing DHCP and internet distribution?

On bootup, (this notebook reboots several times per day with
changes in location because LM8.1 sleep and hibernation modes are not
working on here) network card installation fails for both cards after
what seems like a five minute time-out.

It appears this prevents Samba, Apache and other servers from running,
Though I do not get any errors from the GUI these programs do not start.
I do get errors from the command line when I try to manually start them.

Unplugging and replugging PCMCIA NIC restores internet access, but I
can't ping any computers on the LAN.

What files do I want to edit to remove the phantom NIC?
KDE control center will not remove eth1 for some reason.
When I edit /etc/sysconfig/network to what it might be
I get continuous error messages, but internet still works well.
Only the LAN never comes up.

I'm on the digest of the list so
pleast CC any replies to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to reduce lag.

Thank you,
Jim Lynch
