Hmm. I did this update some time ago via the package manager without problem. System has not been rebooted since...I don't think that a blanket DO NOT DO THIS is appropriate. Of course you must be very careful when doing something as drastic as updating your kernel. Just make sure you have a way out planned before-hand!
