NTFS is compiled in the kernel but I'm unable to mount the drive

I get the error:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda2,
or too many mounted file systems

If it is a bad superblock how do I check and correct the problem and
just how many mounts are too many?
