Your fix did the trick. Thanks!! The line in /etc/X11/xfce/xinitrc read "xscreensaver -no-splash -lock-mode &" so I removed the -lock-mode. BTW, I'm still fooling with RH7.2 and am running Xfce under that distro. RH doesn't supply it all. You can get the latest build from the Xfce website, http://www.xfce.org.; I'm using version 3.8.14c.
