About the worst question I've seen yet. You can't compare the two. One has 5000 instructions in the kernel, other around 200 ( i think ). So yeah, linux is way faster. Plus Mandrake doesn't have the 386+ source, and is compiled for the 586+ class machines. If you are trying to compare X windows to your windows desktop, you will never get the same performance from linux.
As far as I'm concerned, if you want fast Xwindows environment, get a Mac.
