Nope, actually I'm not planning of writing a book, although if I put together everything I have written about mplayer I would have my own bible =) I must emphasize that everything I know I have learned from the man pages from both mplayer and mencoder, and the docs that are included with each mplayer (and on the mplayer site). > Personally, the big problem for me, and i assume many other video / > multimedia newbies, is that i have no idea what most of the options do, > or what all the technical stuff means. I'm afraid it's not all that straighforward as in windows. There are other tools for linux that can make DVD's, however I like to remain loyal to mplayer as it truly is the bast, just not the easiest. The others I have tried all required then the DVD firsdt to be compied to the harddrive, something I find total bullsh1t. Mplayer was the first, or one of the first linux programs to rip on-the-fly, and it really works great! It's a LOT faster than all other Windows programs I have found and tried too. I cannot suggest others therefore as I have too little experience with other programs. As for the options you mention, beats me ;-) Really, I don't know, but they do have their features. The only features I use not mentioned in my previous e-mails is cropping, but hell, don't ask me to explain that properly ;-) I still don't understand it totally ;-) at least not enough to be able to exlain it. I just try and try till I get it right. The latest mencoders (cvs versions) have a cropping auto-detect function which made my life a lot easier ;-) > That sort of stuff.
