I had tried to install repeatedly and succeeded finaly without
installing USB optical mouse.
Therefore Mandriva Linux LE 2005 can be available only with keyboard.
(inconvenience!)
PS2 mouse that you suggested to use couldn't be detected either.

Try using a PS2 mouse to install. After the install, swap the
PS2 mouse with your USB mouse and run mousedrak (or whatever)
to configure it. I don't know that'll work, but I'd try this
strategy next.
