My apologies if this has been addressed already. Where can I find a Linux (KDE) app to check the temperatures of the CPU and other hardware components?

First of all, not all PC's will support HW monitoring. Consult your vendor's specs/manuals. OTOH, if in bios you can see temps voltages, fan speeds, etc., then your motherboard surely does. This is about all the bios report is good for. Altho you should note the voltage readouts for comparison later.

So, if you're HW ready, then you'll need the backend just about all HW GUI's use. 'urpmi lm_sensors' (or use the installer GUI) to install. At this point you should read the docs to get some understanding of what you're doin.

   /usr/share/doc/lm_sensors-2.9.1/doc/
                          ^^^^^^^^ (your version)

and 'man sensors' ( #sensors in Konqueror)

Usually all you need to do is run 'sensors-detect' (as root), an follow the instructions. Almost always the default answer is the best. At the end it'll output what is needed to add to an *.rc file and to a modules* file.

(If you're usin the latest Mandriva, none of this is required, an you might be told so. Don't quite believe it. As of now, the latest Mandriva will still need the modprobe.conf suggestion added. rc.local is all but deprecated an overwritten anyhow.)

If you do need to edit rc* an modules*, then simply running /etc/rc.d/rc.local , after the additions, will get you going. Then just run 'sensors' in a console.

Most peole have favored usin Gkrellm as a GUI to sensors. There's also a KDE specific app call Ksensors. Both will require user configuration. It's best to get 'sensors' understood an workin in a console first tho.
