It would be better to wait a couple of weeks and get 2006. Maybe the best strategy is to install the 8.1 he has, play around and get a feel for where things are, and plan on a complete reinstall when 2006 is publicly available. I'm sure someone will be able to supply him with disks. OTOH, Linum Magazine arrived this week with 2006 on the DVD. If he's in the UK I'll pass it to him, but standard mail to the US is too slow.
