Hey Joe,
So ht and dual core are the same thing? I ask because in MCC, it shows this:
Flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36
clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe lm pni monitor ds_cpl tm2 cid
cx16 xtpr
I noticed that 'ht' (Hyperthreading?), but I wasn't sure if that meant the same
thing.
Hyperthreading and dual-core are different - dual core is physically two
CPUs on one chip, hyperthreading is some clever time slicing stuff done
at the CPU level. If you search for hyperthreading on Intel's site,
there are some nice docs that explain it. Interestingly, I have a
dual core Centrino which shows up as two CPUs (as expected) but both
have 'ht' in the properties (cat /proc/cpuinfo)... I wonder if each
core is hyperthreaded....
Anyway.. now I need to know whether Mandriva is running in 32 or 64 bit
as I need to download a driver and it's giving me a choice... hmm....
Cheers,
David.
