Hmmm. I saw your post on expert list but no bytes on it ...??

If I check my /proc/mounts file
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # ll /proc/mounts
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Feb  2 17:59 /proc/mounts -> self/mounts
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # ll /proc/mounts /proc/self/mou
mounts      mountstats
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # ll /proc/mounts /proc/self/mounts
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Feb  2 17:59 /proc/mounts -> self/mounts
-r--r--r-- 1 root root  0 Feb  2 17:59 /proc/self/mounts

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # cat /proc/mounts
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
/dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0
/dev/root / ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0
/proc /proc proc rw 0 0
/sys /sys sysfs rw 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0

/dev/hda10 /boot ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0

So it would appear your mounts file seems OK, as you posted on expert.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes

18:02:50.474 [I] hald_runner.c:115: Runner has pid 12447
Error binding udev_event socket: Address already in use

Is udev or dbus running ?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # service -s |egrep "hal|bus|udev"
hald (pid 2528) is running...
dbus-daemon (pid 6024 2118) is running...
udev is running

or another way for dbus:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: proc # service messagebus status
dbus-daemon (pid 6024 2118) is running...
