Here's what I think is happening. You are double-clicking on the 
ebase.102 icon to launch ebase. This is the runtime version of 
FileMaker that came with the file set. All your ebase files, however, 
are now in FileMaker version 5 format, since you converted them when 
you installed FileMaker. So you get the message that you are starting 
FileMaker 4 (the runtime version) but the files are in version 5. Try 
launching FileMaker, selecting the File>Open menu item, and 
navigating to the ebase_.102 file (not ebase.102, which is the 
runtime).

Actually, you did, in the form of a runtime application delivered 
with the ebase files.
