Clay,
` Thanks for the feedback. I'll fix them. I hate it when I
forget and leave out the space before the number.
As for US 550's continuation in Colorado, I just checked
NM-DOT and, indeed, it is all US 550 after the intersection in the
middle of AZtec. Sigh. Well, I guess there is danger in relying on
your fellow mappers exclusively. Making 516 dual carriageway took at
lot of time, and I think I still have to fix some places where side
roads come in.
I was on this road this summer on my annual Southwest
vacation. I'm not sure it really deserves "trunk" in town. It's
really just a four-lane major city street with a left-turn lane. US
64 keeps its "trunk" status through Farmington (about 15 miles west)
because it really is a dual-lane road with a substantial divider down
the middle. The situation in Aztec is much more modest.
Best,
Charlotte

I would recommend marking it as trunk on the same principle I
mentioned earlier. If it's trunk on both sides of the town, it makes
more sense to have it as trunk within the town too unless there's a
bypass (which there isn't in this case).
Also, just noticed a few other things, I hope you don't mind the criticism -
* What happened to US 550? Is it getting redesignated to NM 516?
What happens inside Colorado?
* Good job on making it dual carriageway - make sure you delete the
FIXME="dual carriageway" after you're done.
* On NM 516, make sure the ref="NM 516" tag is consistent - I
noticed a few ref=NM516 in there.

It's Aztec, NM, where NM 516 passes through town.

I immediately thought of this place I pass through frequently:

In this case, going off the same principle we have with
"almost-freeways" (i.e. tagging them as trunk roads), I think it
makes more sense to tag it as a trunk road because the undivided
section is short and insignificant. Though I don't know how similar
your case is to this one. Could you show us the specific instance(s)?

Hello all,
I have a place where a trunk highway (divided but not
limited access) goes through a large town where it becomes a
four-lane street with a wide left-turn lane in the center (but not
really a divided highway). My instinct is to tag it a primary road
while in town (it is called Main Street in town). Is this correct?
