Ok, so I don't know what I did wrong!!! I installed Mozilla Firebird, then uninstalled Mozilla. While I was doing tat, I decided to clean up some of the packages that I had installed on Redhat (8.0). It all worked fine, and it didn't complain about inconsistencies or anything like that. (I was using the Redhat Package Manager), I only got rid of things like cdparanoia and things like that. I wish i could tell you exactly what i removed, but I can't right now. Anyway, after I did that, I was working with Firebird for a while, and everything was working fine. Pretty soon though, I wanted to do something in gmplayer, but it crashed and wouldn't work. then, i tried to open firebird again (i had turned it off), and it gave me an error about a font of some sort. Finally, I decided to reboot to see if that fixed any of the problems. When I did that though, after logging in, it gave me an error when I tried to use "startx". I'll see if i can get the error onto here. First, there are a lot of lines that start: (WW) Savage(0) Failed to set up write-combining range([hex number],[hex number]) Fatal Server Error: Could not open default font 'fixed' When reporting a problem......... full server output can be found in /var/log/XFree86.0.log (do you need this info? i might be able to figure out how to send it...) XIO fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on XServer ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I reall need my computer oon because i have some cs projects due in the next two weeks! I'd really appreciate as much help as possible. I'm currently running lynx from the command line, so i don't know how this is being formatted.. i hope it's readable... :) I'm probably going to switch over to the win partition of my hard drive until i hear back from you. thank you for your help! ~Erin
