What GUI are you using?  Harddrake / drakconf?  Have you tried KPPP to dial 
your modem with the new driver?  The one modem I installed with a rpm just 
told me where to look (hardware, /dev/something) for the modem when it 
installed, and I configured KPPP to dial up using that.  I never even used 
drakconf / harddrake.

If you are looking to do command line updates on Mandrake, I suggest taking a 
look at the cool article to do it on the UUG site:

Course, that was for Mandrake 9.1, you'd have to look for 9.2 sources on the 
Mandrake site and modify the commands accordingly.  Oh, and don't use secsup 
for any of the servers.  It's having issues.
