Howdy, I'm thinking about installing Fedora Core 3 by myself for the first time on a second drive this week in-between studying for finals and I just had a few questions. Currently I have 768 MB RAM and a 250GB primary hard drive with Win XP SP2 which I want to keep and a clean 60 GB hard drive that I want to use for Linux. I am also considering leaving room on the second hard drive for a Debian install at some later date so I will probably split my 60 GB hard drive in half. Here are my questions:
1. Are there any problems with a dual boot install of Fedora Core 3 that I should know about that might cause me to have issues getting into my WinXP partition/system? I know that Fedora Core 2 had a "hard disk geometry" problem and frankly, I don't want to deal with anything like that during finals if it might be a problem even if the solution is fairly simple. I'm hoping for a clean install or the ability to simply flatten my 2nd hard drive and be right back to running WinXP (sorry for offending anyone! :) ). 2. If I use 30 GB total for Fedora Core 3 I was thinking a 2 GB swap, 128 MB /boot, and what's left of the 28 GB for everything else. Does this sound good? 3. Online it said that /boot should not be an LVM partition. What should it be? 4. I assume ext3 is the filesystem I should use except for swap which would be swap. Is this correct? 5. Which is preferred, LILO or GRUB? Is there anyone available today who might give me their phone number in case I run into a question and can't get online. I hope not to use it but it's always nice knowing someone may be able to answer a quick question or two on the phone. If so, just email me off-list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks!!! -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
