i run fedora 2/3 and i'll all have to do for my usb flash drive is plug it in. fedora automatically reconizes and mounts it. however, i remember having the same problem i'm assuming you are (you plug it in and linux doesn't reconize it). if i remember correctly, i turned my computer on once with the usb drive already in and linux reconized it. ever since then i can plug my usb drive in and linux knows what to do with it. i don't know why that is, but it worked for me.
