I tried to mount it in the terminal but I got a 'mount: No medium
found' error. I tried restarting but got same error. could it be
something else other then sda1 and if so how would I figure it out.

well, I'm going to assume that you're not using Gnome or KDE, or that
someone else is going to tell you how to do it the easy way in
gnome/kde, because i don't know that easy way...
so, the way i do it is, i go into a terminal, and run:
$ mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb
now, before you go and type that into your shell, there are a few things
you should know.
1) the $ at the beginning is not something you want to type. it simply
means that you're doing this at a terminal prompt.
2) the folder /mnt/usb needs to exist

(p.s. sorry to pick on you a bit at the beginning... i just couldn't
resist)
