What are some other good ones (esp if good for newbies like me), and what
are their main differences (pros and cons, etc)? Also, what do most of you
use?
For "newbies like me", I'd have to recommend trying ubuntu or SuSE. I've
also been told MEPIS is good. Novell Linux Desktop is pretty nice as
well (I've actually used it), but I imagine is quite similar to SuSE.

SLACKWARE RULES!!! Okay, now that I have that out of my system I can
honestly say that I enjoyed using Novell Linux Desktop 9. It was slick.
It's just a desktop system though so it didn't come with any real
networking/server bells or whistles. It uses the Ximian desktop. SuSE
uses the KDE desktop by default. You can most likely get whatever you
want running though. I would take a little step further and decide what
you'd like to experiment doing with the system and then read some more
reviews.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think most of *nix based servers
around the Net are FreeBSD. So I choose Slackware Linux since they try
to be close to the BSD flavors, but I still have all the software
choices available for Linux.
