Operating under the assumption that your remote machine is running
Linux, I'd recommend either scp or rsync. Syntax below:
scp -r [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/path/on/remote/system/to/files
/local/path/where/you/want/them
rsync -e ssh -avz
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/path/on/remote/system/to/files
/local/path/where/you/want/them
If you're just transferring once, it doesn't really matter which one you
use. If you're going to transfer repeatedly, use the rsync, since that
will essentially only transmit the changes.
Sorry, but I can't really speak to any graphical utilities to use. I
also don't really know anything about the servers in the CS dept., since
I switched to an engineering major several years ago. I use the
following syntax all the time from home:
rsync -e ssh -avz [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/class/* ~/class/
