Were I you, I would start looking for melted wires also, or take a chance of burning up more than the plug. You can always use an automotive plug hooked up to the wires that go to your old ruined socket, and at least feel for wires that get hot while the light is on. When you've found the problem(s), and done the repair, then install the new socket. Stanley
