It's purely a personal thing. I love those things and since very few dealers will even look at a bike that old... I already had many years in when they first came out. I'm probably some sort of fool for staying in this line of work for so long but I actually like my job. Sharing with others who have these bikes makes sure they will go on for more years. Everything I know and some change will get me coffee at Mickey D's. The hardest part of on-line help is figuring out the degree of competence of the inquirer. Many years ago, Edwin Land set forth the proposition that any question could be answered if asked properly. # FYI: He was the father of the Poloroid camera, which made it possible to share photos of naked people before the internet, cell phones, etc.

I think it's very generous of you to volunteer your knowledge here when you also send all day doing this stuff professionally. I know that when you give advice here, I always pay special attention to what you've said because I know it is "High-grade" stuff from someone who knows. I think the manual's troubleshooting logic let us down this time. But I think that must be fairly rare or they wouldn't take the time to write this stuff out in the first place. But, in the end, your suggestion to simply swap the A & B sides at each step along the way from the pulse generators to the coils was what sorted it out and I'd have been better to have done that in the first place than to have followed the manual on this one. Cheers! And thanks again. Damn, it's nice to have a running machine again. Logic wins out over the manual. Happy riding. --- On Wed, 6/10/09, Dennis <[email protected]> wrote: From: Dennis <[email protected]> Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] CB700SC Carbs > Ignitor > Coil problem To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 3:37 PM Well, I just heard the sweetest sound I've heard in some time out in my garage. All four cylinders firing on my NH. Turns out that it was, indeed, a bad coil in spite of the fact that the bad coil tests out good by all the ways I could check it according to the manual's specifications. Ah well, it is what it is. Graham was nice enough to sell me one he'd pulled off a running engine. Thanks, Graham!!! I've just dropped what I owe you into your PayPal account. Now, if I can sell the extra ignitor I bought on Ebay for what I paid for it, this will be a wrap. Thanks for everyone's help and comments on both debugging the electrical problem and on the issue of repairing the tab on my side cover. The tab repair seems to be working well too. Yahoo!!! I'm going for a ride!
