I purchased a 1984 Nightawk 700sc, fell in love as soon as I climbed on, and when I drove it, "like butter" is all I could think! On my "maiden voyage" something jamed and caused by new bike and I to take a plastic breaking, metal grinding slide across a intersection. Not being able to figure out what/why had happned, and not being able to get it to start again, took it to the mechanic and he finds 2 outer clutch gears chipped/broken off (which is what had jamed the whole system). One gear on the crankshaft is also damaged. Asking the mechanics "what would you do if this was your son/daughter bike?" One mechanic says to replace the clutch and he can fix the tooth/dog on the crankshaft and it will run fine, he does it all the time. The other guy says to replace all the parts (which will cost more than I paid for the bike). My dad said junk it because he's worried about other bits of the broken teeth still loose in/around the crankshaft area. Can that area be cleaned w/o taking the motor apart? So I want to put the question to any one out there......
What would you do it this was your bike? Is there another factor I am not aware of? PS, I don't hold other people responsible for my decisions, so please speek freely.... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
