I seem to get a consistent 43-44 mpg just about exactly 100 miles per tank before flipping the petcock to reserve. When I first got the bike I was running 87 Octane for the first two years, then I got a bike for my wife and read her owners manual where it mentioned fuel and thought; I wonder what my nighthawk book says? After reading mine I switched to at least 91 octane, and you'll never guess, the knocking went away. I would have thought I was smart enough to try a higher octane fuel when the knocking started but alas I'm not.
Does anyone know about how far you can run the bike once flipping to the reserve? And good luck riding in NJ Marcel, I just had to replace two wheels on my car because of hitting a pothole, that bent both rims on my passanger side, in NJ just before crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge.
